Halifax’s ROCarbon Labs, which helps building-owners benefit from carbon offsets, has been accepted into the 100+ Accelerator, where it’s gaining exposure to some of the world’s largest companies.
Co-Founder and CEO Megan McCarthy took in the opening sessions last week at the headquarters of the global brewer AB InBev in Belgium.
The 100+ Accelerator has accepted 47 startups from around the world into its seventh cohort, including ROCarbon. As well as providing up to US$100,000 in funding to each participant, it offers startups a chance to integrate their products with the enterprise companies that sponsor the accelerator. As well as AB InBev, these include Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, Danone, Mondelēz International, and Unilever.
“This marks an unbelievably massive milestone for my startup ROCarbon Labs – chosen from thousands of startups globally to pilot our solution with some of the largest brands in the entire world,” said McCarthy in a LinkedIn post. “Being selected for the 100+ Accelerator is a strong signal that carbon insetting and digitized MVR [measurement, reporting, and verification] are becoming critical infrastructure for the future of corporate climate action.”
A veteran of several startups, McCarthy is a dedicated social entrepreneur whose work has always focused on environmental concerns. With ROCarbon, she and team members April MacLeod and Jason Freake have developed an online exchange for carbon offsets called ROCx. It uses sustainable blockchain technology to help building owners sell to the voluntary carbon market.
“From sharing our solutions to building meaningful partnerships and learning from global sustainability leaders, this experience marked an exciting first step in our journey to help shape more sustainable global supply chains,” said McCarthy of her first sessions with 100+.
